JT Soul is back already with his a new tape and goddam does it bang! After a little over a month of dropping his debut EP and turning 18, JT delivers a 3-track, hard-hitting project titled “.WAV Tape“. The tape takes on that unique Montreal sound, from the pitch-bending 808’s to the raw vocals, but with a futuristic take on it. Almost as if some gooned out version of the Jetsons were cruising through the ghetto’s of the year 2030. Be cautious of moshpit breakouts when this starts bumping.
Production credits for the tape go to some of Montreal’s hypest up & comers including long time collaborator Jei Bandit on “FYFYO” as well as “Icky Vicky” alongside Freakey & jåmvvis, and crypt on “No Sample“. Each track, though unique in their own way, come together seamlessly to create a headbanging vibe that JT’s rough vocals add to perfectly. Not to mention, he came with the bars, needless to say. When you take JT’s age into consideration you can tell that the kid is soon to be a problem seeing as he’s the youngest to be doing what he’s doing in the city he’s from.
When giving his thoughts on the EP, JT said “The .WAV Tape is my way of saying “f*ck you”, a rebel with a cause. They tried restraining us so here’s how we fight back the system that’s confined our thoughts. Free your mind and your soul from these devils. It’s more than just an ordinary rap tape. If you pay attention, this is the perfect balance between turn up and pure consciousness. This is my energy that’s been bottled up and I’m finally deciding to let it go.”
JT’s previous EP, “372 ; Velvet Tears”,which leaned more towards the R&B genre, had debuted at #10 in France and #18 in Canada on the top 200 iTunes R&B charts and has been covered by the likes of Complex, HipHopDX and EARMILK. When you take JT’s age into consideration you , which makes him the youngest to be doing what he’s doing in the city he’s from.
