Don’t Tell a Soul is the Replacements' sixth album and was released by Sire Records on February 1, 1989.
The album is the first with Bob “Slim” Dunlap as guitarist. Original guitarist Bob Stinson was kicked out of the band between the release of Tim (1986) and Pleased to Meet Me (1987).
As usual, the album met with generally positive critical reception, but also as usual, it did not sell as well as the band hoped.
A Deluxe edition came out in 2008 by Rhino Records with seven extra tracks, four of which had already been released in the compilation All for Nothing – Nothing for All (“Portland”, “Wake Up”, “We Know the Night” and the b-side to the I’ll Be You single, “Date to Church”), plus a studio demo for “Talent Show”, a remix of “We’ll Inherit the Earth” and an ironic cover of Slade’s “Gudbuy t'Jane”.
