Originally named Terra Incognita, 7lions was a rap-rock group formed in 2008 when a mutual friend introduced rapper Mika “Prophet” Guillory to guitarist Forrest Fulmer. After Guillory began regularly joining Fulmer’s band Omission on stage, he became a permanent addition along with keyboardist Morgan Taylor Reid and bassist Daniel Hange. The band’s intention was to present “a rock show that gives you a reason to dance”.
Through a prior business relationship Guillory had with former Epic Records head Charlie Walk, the band was introduced to producer Nadir “RedOne” Khayat (known for his work with Lady Gaga, U2, J Lo and Pitbull). RedOne signed the group to his new label 2101 under Universal Music and released the five-track EP Born To Run in 2012. It reached #35 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Albums Chart.
The song “Born To Run” was heard on TV broadcasts for NASCAR, Major League Baseball, the French Open and the Australian Open. A remix also became the theme song for the LA Kings. A full album was in the works but never materialized. As of 2018, the band’s website still read like it was written in 2012.
The band members later released music under the name Ships Have Sailed with drummer Will Carpenter moving to vocals and Guillory only contributing to one track. Later they changed their name to VIIL and released the song “Shockwave” in 2017.
Individually, Guillory continues to write for artists like Backstreet Boys and Havana Brown, in addition to his own music. Reid continues to write and produce for artists like Backstreet Boys, American Authors and Chromeo, in addition to releasing his own music.
