Jorge Drexler is a Uruguayan musician, composer and doctor born on September 21, 1964. P>
He was a lifeguard, a synagogue singer and a home nurse. He studied medicine in his hometown and became a doctor. He worked as an otolaryngologist (specialized in diseases of the ear, nose and larynx), just like his parents. P>
In 1995 he went to Spain to open for three of the musician Joaquín Sabina's concerts. But instead of staying a month, he stayed to live. He currently lives on the outskirts of Madrid, but records his records in Montevideo. P>
On February 27, 2005, Jorge Drexler became the first Uruguayan to obtain an Oscar, in the category of best original song for Al Otro Lado del Río, the subject of the movie Motorcycle Diaries. The song can be found on Eco², a reissue of the Eco album released in 2004.
