Sierra Kidd About
Sierra Kidd (born September 23, 1996 in Emden as Manuel Marc Jungclaussen) is a German rapper and musician who was under contract with the Indipendenza label until January 2015. From then on he started to release music under his own label Teamfucksleep.
The oldest songs that can still be found by Sierra Kidd today are from the Nicki Minaj mixtape from 2010, when he was just 14 years old and still released his music under the name "Zwille". According to his own statements, however, he started rapping even earlier. It was then that he discovered Windows Recorder and began to write and record his first songs. Even then, his music was very profound and extreme, of which the song Suizidszenario # 2 is a good example. This probably has its origin in the tough youth, in which he was heavily bullied and was a lot alone because he was an outsider, which he says in this interview, for example. There he also says that the music was initially just a so-called "outlet" for his thoughts and feelings, but now he also wants to help people with his music and draw attention to important issues such as bullying (it should be noted that this Interview from 2014). One reason he was an outsider for a long time is that because of an inheritance he and his family moved from a rather poorer neighborhood to a more upscale, better sheltered area. There they didn't fit in socially and Kidd was just different. Originally it was not planned to show Sierra Kidd's face to the public until he was 18, the hand in front of his eyes was even one of his trademarks. This decision was also justified, among other things, with his “status” in the school. This planning failed, however, when a TV station broadcast a report about him and his face was shown against his will.
Kidd's style of music has changed a lot over the years, you could even say with every album. In 2013 and 2014 it initially had a rather “poppy” sound, which cannot necessarily be described as strict rap. This can also be seen from the fact that in 2014 he even took part in the Bundesvision song contest for the state of Lower Saxony with the song “20,000 roses”. Unfortunately, he was only able to take 13th of 15 places there. At the same time he brought out the Kidd of Rap: Kill it Mixtape, for example, which was very rap-heavy and had many heavier tracks.
In 2015 and 2016, with albums / mixtapes such as FSOD and B4FUNERAL, he used a sound that was almost too modern for the time and, for example, used a lot of auto-tune back then, before it was as trendy as it is today. At that time he landed his biggest hit with "Xanny". After that, his style changed quite radically.
While his music was mostly still strong and often profound in terms of content over the years despite the style changes, in 2017 he started his "trap-flex phase" with the album Rest in Peace, in which his songs mostly used much more typical rap clichés and put the focus on trap sound and good audibility than on content. At that time Kidd got lost in drugs and as he later explained he just "pushed a movie". So he has b ...
